In a low-scoring contest between the Sprague HS Torchbearers and the Oswego HS Lynx, 18-year old right-handed pitcher Ramiro Rivera proved to be the difference. The Sprague HS right-hander earned props for his performance in the 2-1 Torchbearers win. Sprague HS reliever George Reynolds picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Garry Whaley was saddled with the loss. The save went to Wayne Rudis, his 3rd this season.
Sprague HS needed the clutch hitting of Juan Jose Córdova to seal the deal. The center fielder swatted a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Torchbearers on top, 2-1. For the game, Córdova had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"That's us at our best," Córdova told the Sprague HS Chronicle. "Pitching and trying to prevent runs."
The 5th-place Torchbearers are now 12-14, the Lynx 9-17.
