The Bakersfield Bears, despite a fine performance by Palm Springs pitcher Shigochiyo Yamaguchi, grabbed a 3-2 win at Elderberry Field. Yamaguchi allowed 3 runs over 8 innings. Luis Zapata picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 2-0. Shigochiyo Yamaguchi, who is tied for 2nd in the SL in innings pitched with 155.1, was tagged with the loss. Ánibal Gallegos earned save number 11 this season.

Ricardo Menéndez had a direct impact on the outcome. Menéndez contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put Bakersfield up, 2-1.

Palm Springs manager Bob Sullivan said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.

The 5th-place Bears now have a record of 39-67.
