Palm Springs Codgers starter Takashi Yamamoto pitched his team past the Reno Zephyrs, 3-1. The Codgers, at 86-76, sit in third place in the Sovereign League Desert Hills.

Had Mike Soto not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Soto hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Codgers.

"Really good pitchers have that ability to raise their game when they need to," said Palm Springs manager Bob Sullivan.
