Sandgnats Win 2-0 Walk-Off
|
León Vega was on the winning side of a pitcher's duel at Ellison Field at Dole Park. In fact, the Crystal Lake Sandgnats right-hander was instrumental in his team's 2-0 victory over the Niihama-shi Ghosts. The win belonged to Brendon Cardenas in relief. His record improves to 9-3. Curt Merrill took the loss for Niihama-shi. The first-place Sandgnats have their sights set on making a deep playoff run.
Crystal Lake got a knockout punch from Wendell Guiney. The third baseman hammered a 2-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. It might've been his only hit, but it decided the outcome.
"We couldn't have scripted it any better," Guiney said in his postgame press conference.
