Sad Sack Arroyos Lose 7th Straight
|
The Palm Springs Codgers defeated the Yuma Arroyos, 5-3, in Sovereign League action at Elderberry Field. Palm Springs pitcher Yoshiaga Watanabe had a standout performance. Palm Springs reliever Rob Rowlingson picked up the win to move to 7-2. Aurelio Suárez suffered the loss. Bob Miles picked up his 41st save of the season.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Jorge Fernández came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Yuma pitcher Aurelio Suárez, he hit a first pitch changeup for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Palm Springs on top, 5-3.
Palm Springs manager Bob Sullivan commended his team for "banging out a nice win."
The losses continue to mount for Yuma, which has now dropped 7 in a row.
