The Palm Springs Codgers picked up a win at Elderberry Field, taking down the Bakersfield Bears, 4-3, in 10 innings. On the mound for Palm Springs was left-hander Bang-xao Niu. He played a central role in the triumph. Bob Miles snagged the win in relief. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit over 2 innings. He's now 3-1 on the season. The Codgers saw their record improve to 60-45.

The decisive blow was delivered by Herb Moon in the bottom of the tenth when he hit a solo home run off 30-year old right-handed pitcher Brad Morrall to win the game for Palm Springs. The home crowd went nuts.

"Bang-xao was dictating to their hitters," said Palm Springs manager Bob Sullivan.
