Calzones of Laredo Score Late to Nip Statesmen, 5-4
|
The San Antonio Calzones of Laredo used the hitting of second baseman Hisashi Takeuchi to subdue the Charleston Statesmen, 5-4. For the game, Takeuchi was 4-5 with a home run and 3 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Juan Vargas came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. His record now stands at 11-9. Jonathan Andrews picked up the save for San Antonio, his 29th of the year.
San Antonio used a timely hit from Juan Ramos to get the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to put the Calzones of Laredo ahead, 5-4. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"We didn't go down without a fight," said Charleston manager Luis Salars.
The Calzones of Laredo are now 82-76, while the Statesmen fall to 81-77.
