Mothra Lose as Kings Stage Late Rally
|
Both teams had their opportunities, but in the end, the Red Deer Kings got the win.
Kumamoto got a big-time effort from pitcher Marcos Olivo, but it wasn't enough to keep the Red Deer Kings from winning the game, 4-3. Olivo threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. Jeremy Cruz, who is tied for 8th in the PCAL in wins with 10, was the winning pitcher. Over 7 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, with no walks and 5 strikeouts.
Red Deer needed the clutch hitting of Marcus Blackadder to seal the deal. The left fielder swatted a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Kings on top, 4-2. For the game, Blackadder had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"I've been criticized for being a slacker, but the one thing I do care about is winning," Blackadder told the Red Deer Gazette.
The win puts Red Deer at 59-58 this season.
