The Laval Islanders knocked off the Kumamoto Mothra, 8-7, in Pacific Alliance action at Ibaraki Grounds. Laval pitcher and Panchiao, Taiwan, native Shuan-yan Kang had an outstanding performance. Picking up his 15th save was 20-year old right-handed pitcher Jo Nii. With the win, Laval has a record of 49-57. Kumamoto falls to 50-56.

Laval used a well-timed hit by Wesley Whitford to capture the win. The pinch hitter socked a 2-run double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Islanders ahead, 5-3. Though it was his only hit in 1 at-bat, it was important.

"Nice win for us," said Kang. "Now we'll go after the next one."
