Starting pitcher Matsuo Yamashita was a major factor in the 4-0 Brampton Camels triumph over the Laval Islanders. Yamashita yielded no runs over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 11. His record improves to 1-0. Harald Lamper collected save number 7.
Jorge Cruz had a big 2-run home run for the Camels in the bottom of the second inning. With Brampton leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a slider from 26-year old right-handed pitcher Jin-hyun O and swatted a home run to right. It was his 8th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Camels ahead, 3-0.
"We put it together and came out with the win," Cruz said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
At 58-43, the Camels find themselves in first place in the Pacific Alliance Maple Leaf.
