Toyohira beat Medicine Hat on the strength of starting pitcher Zhong-yan Ke's fine effort. The left-hander led his team to a win, 3-0. Iván García earned his 21st save in 24 chances. Toyohira, at 59-37, occupies third place in the Pacific Alliance Cherry Blossom.

Toru Kobayashi had a big 2-run home run for the Fubuki in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Toyohira leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a cutter from 26-year old right-handed pitcher Luther González and punished it. The result was his 10th home run of the season, which put the Fubuki on top, 3-0.

"I like what I saw today," said Toyohira manager Tadamasa Hashimoto, "and I can't wait to get back out there and do it again."
