Hartford right fielder Noel Dulihanty pounded Manchester Maulers pitchers at Whiten Field, but it was not enough to keep the Harpoon from falling, 9-7. Dulihanty hit 2 home runs. The winning pitcher was Phil Warren. His record now stands at 7-8. The right-hander went 5.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits for the Maulers. Earl Lucas earned his 18th save in 26 chances.

Richard Sosa had a big 2-run home run for the Maulers in the bottom of the first inning. With Manchester trailing 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from Ronaldo Hernández, who is tied for 10th in the IL in innings pitched with 136.0, and punished it. The result was his 10th home run of the season, which put the Maulers on top, 2-1.

Sosa told the Manchester Herald: "Win or lose, I don't want to see our team outhustled."
