Islanders Use Late Surge to Win
|
The Canberra HS Mountaineers could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Joshua Dutton into a win. Instead, the Zhoushan HS Islanders prevailed, 3-1, in 10 innings. Dutton threw 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball. The 4th-place Mountaineers now sit at 23-22.
Zhoushan HS needed the clutch hitting of Xiao-yan Zhào to notch the win. The second baseman hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the tenth inning to put the Islanders on top, 3-1. For the game, Zhào had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
Zhào called the win a testament to his team's "grit."
