Privateers Get 6-1 Win Versus Puerto Plata
|
Fans brought energy and enthusiasm to the Puerto Plata Pacos home opener. Ichiro Koumura started for the home team against Juan Pérez for the Port Royal Privateers. The Pacos were unable to reward the home crowd with a win. The final score was 6-1, Port Royal. Ichiro Koumura, though, was impressive. Picking up the win was Juan Pérez. He went 6 innings, allowing no runs on 2 hits. The right--hander struck out 7 and walked 6. Picking up his 1st save was 18-year old right-handed pitcher Josh Johnstone.
The Privateers got a big at-bat from right fielder Sergio Nevárez. For the game, Nevárez was 1-4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the second, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Port Royal a 2-0 lead.
"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said Port Royal manager Juan Castro.
