In a tight game between the Asmara Modernists and the Djibouti Soldato, pitcher Tony Fernández was terrific on the mound. The Asmara right-hander helped his team to the 3-1 win. The winner was Fernández. He threw 5.1 innings of 4-hit ball. The loser was Kiefer Buser. Asmara is now 36-44, while Djibouti is 52-28.
Tin-jong Zhang was 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for Asmara. The 19-year old second baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two out and the bases loaded, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring walk off Kiefer Buser. It was his 36th walk of the season.
"Tony executed his pitches at a high level," said Asmara manager Katsuhiko Ikarashi.
