Addis Ababa got a terrific game from shortstop Pedro Gómez. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Khartoum, 4-3. Gómez belted 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Mark Knight came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. His record now stands at 4-1. The third-place Raiders have won 5 straight.

The decisive blow was delivered by Art Johnson in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a 2-run double off fireballing right-hander Allen McGuicken to win the game for Khartoum. The home crowd went nuts.

"As well as we've been playing, I think we can play even better," said Khartoum manager Mito Nii.
