The Addis Ababa Rifters had to overcome a fine effort from Asmara pitcher Ricardo Villarreal to win, 3-1, at Tagliero Stadium. Villarreal went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs. The win went to Cody Roberts in relief, making him now 1-0. Ricardo Villarreal took the loss for Asmara. Allen McGuicken nailed down his 17th save.
Addis Ababa used a clutch hit from Cristóbal Ruíz to snatch the win. The pinch hitter belted a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Rifters ahead, 1-0. It was his only hit, but it was huge.
"They played a better game than we did," said Asmara skipper Katsuhiko Ikarashi.
The 6th-place Rifters go to 28-37.
