Juan Maldonado pitched well enough to win, but it was not to be. The Sunshine Coast Crocodile Hunters, despite Maldonado's fine outing, dropped a 2-1 decision to the Tauranga Taniwha at Steve Irwin Stadium. The 6th-place Taniwha go to 42-47.

A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the ninth, with the game tied, Ichiro Fukui was at the plate when Tauranga scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Taniwha to go in front, 2-1.

"We leaned on our pitching tonight," Fukui said.
