Wet weather did not postpone the Melbourne-Auckland ballgame.
The Melbourne Bitters defeated the Auckland Aces BC, 4-0, in Intercontinental Baseball Coalition action at Aukland Grounds. Melbourne pitcher Felipe Nieves had a standout performance. The win makes Melbourne 39-44.
Melbourne used a well-timed hit by Jack Laverty to capture the win. The shortstop socked a run-scoring double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Bitters ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"This game will punch you right in the mouth," said Nieves. "My job is to show up and give my team a chance."
