Starting pitcher Young-kwang Yang gave the Tauranga Taniwha a rock-solid effort. The Yongju, South Korea native helped his team defeat the Melbourne Bitters, 3-0, at Victoria Field. The winner was Yang. He threw 6.0 innings of shutout ball. The loser was Connor MacDade. Randy Lockhart, credited with the save, is now 6 for 8 in save opportunities.
Tauranga won the game in part because of Markus Pijlswaard. The catcher ripped a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Taniwha ahead, 2-0. For the game, Pijlswaard had 1 double and 1 home run in 3 at-bats.
"Makes our job easier," said Pijlswaard, "when our pitchers shut the opposition down."
