Taniwha Earn 5-2 Win Against Devils
|
The Tauranga Taniwha racked up a win at Devils Ballpark, bumping off the Hobart Devils, 5-2, in 13 innings. Roberto Ortíz, who started for Tauranga, pitched effectively for his team. Mitch Jones, now 1-0, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2 innings. The 5th-place Devils dropped to 35-38.
José Hernández came through with a big-time hit for Tauranga. The third baseman smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the 13th inning to give his team the lead, 4-2. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"Feels good to be on the winning side," said Hernández.
