Crocodile Hunters Lose, 6-3
|
The Hobart Devils overcame a good performance by Sunshine Coast shortstop António Contreras to knock off Sunshine Coast, 6-3, at Steve Irwin Stadium. Contreras was 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 3 runs. Hobart starter Carlos Estrada was credited with the win after throwing 96 pitches over 5.2 innings. His record now stands at 4-7. Ed Adamic earned the save, his 16th, for the Devils.
It could have been a different outcome for Hobart, had it not been for Niek Evers, the 19-year old catcher . Evers contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the fifth inning to put Hobart up, 4-2.
"We scored more than enough runs this time," said Hobart manager Suezo Iwata. "Now watch. The next game we'll probably struggle to get a base hit."
Sunshine Coast has now lost 5 consecutive games.
