Taniwha Stick Bitters with 3-1 Loss
|
The Tauranga Taniwha went home winners at Baypark at the Mount, thanks in large part to starter António Vázquez. Vázquez stifled the Melbourne Bitters, enabling Tauranga to grab the 3-1 win. Vázquez yielded 1 run over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 0, and struck out 10. His record improves to 5-4. Tauranga is now 30-29.
With two out in the bottom of the third, Naosuke Niiya put Tauranga in front, 3-1, with a run-scoring single. The Taniwha went on to win the ballgame.
"António approached every single pitch he made with total conviction," said Tauranga manager Christian Butler.
