Taniwha Get Past Wagga Wagga, 7-6
Tauranga starter Mitch Jones pitched well against the Wagga Wagga Crows at Tetsunori Koike Field. The left-hander led his team to a win, 7-6, in 11 innings. The winner was Tauranga reliever Daniel Flowers, now 1-4. The loser was Fernando Silva. Tauranga, at 25-31, holds down 7th place in the Intercontinental Baseball Coalition Tasman League.

Tauranga used the clutch hitting of Naizen Kurihara to snag the win. The first baseman drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the 11th inning to put the Taniwha ahead, 6-4. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.

"Winning is not something we take for granted," Kurihara said.
