Russell Hits Two Dingers, Stevedores Win, 6-1
|
The Brisbane Stevedores took on the Melbourne Bitters at The Ship Yard.
The Brisbane Stevedores defeated the Melbourne Bitters, 6-1, in part because of designated hitter Pat Russell. Russell was 3 for 4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice for the Stevedores. The second-place Stevedores are 27-21.
With Brisbane leading 2-1 in the bottom of the third, Russell hit a curveball from Adam Belt for a 3-run home run. It was his 13th home run of the season and put the Stevedores ahead, 5-1.
In postgame comments to the Brisbane Daily News, Russell said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
