Starting pitcher Geer Wagenmakers was a major factor in the 3-1 Brisbane Stevedores triumph over the Tauranga Taniwha. The winning pitcher was Wagenmakers, now 4-5. He tossed 5.1 innings of 1-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 3. Sean Floyd closed the door for Brisbane, picking up his 15th save of the year.
Caley Cleave had a direct impact on the outcome. Cleave contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the fourth inning to put Brisbane up, 2-0.
"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Stevedores manager Joe O'Sullivan, "I like our chances."
The Intercontinental Baseball Coalition Tasman League-leading Stevedores are 27-18.
