Shimeld Leads Taniwha to 5-1 Win over Bitters
|
The Tauranga Taniwha downed the Melbourne Bitters, 5-1, at Victoria Field. Stellar pitching by Joseph Shimeld had a lot to do with it. The left-hander handcuffed his opponent all game. With the win, Tauranga goes to 19-20, while the Bitters fall to 18-21.
Shimeld threw well for Tauranga, thwarting the Melbourne offense. The left-hander tossed 87 pitches over 8 innings. He allowed just 1 run on 2 hits.
"My job is to throw quality pitches, go as deep as I can, and give us an opportunity," said Shimeld.
