In a tightly-contested game between the Auckland Aces BC and the Tauranga Taniwha, pitcher Nelson Castro was outstanding. The Auckland right-hander propelled his team's 2-1 win. Castro picked up the win for Auckland, going 6.2 innings. He gave up no runs on 3 hits. He now sports a record of 3-3. The save went to Jay Gonzáles, number 7 for him.
The Aces BC got a big at-bat from designated hitter Tracy Welch. For the game, Welch went 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. In the top of the sixth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 8th home run of the season gave Auckland a 1-0 lead.
"Every loss hurts," said Tauranga manager Christian Butler. "But this was a tough one."
The Aces BC now have a mark of 15-21.
