The bats were silent much of the day at Victoria Field. But 20-year old shortstop Adilmar Amaral produced just enough offense to carry the Stevedores past the Melbourne Bitters, 3-2. Amaral was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times. José Hernández notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. His record now sits at 2-1. The loss makes Melbourne 12-17.

Brisbane used the timely hitting of Gidde Boersma to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Stevedores on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"That's baseball," said Melbourne manager Travis Mitchell. "Sometimes the other team plays better than yours."
