Taniwha Earn Late 3-2 Win
|
Starting pitcher António Vázquez gave the Tauranga Taniwha a rock-solid effort. The Portage, Indiana native helped his team defeat the Wagga Wagga Crows, 3-2, at Baypark at the Mount. Tauranga reliever Randy Lockhart got the win, raising his record to 1-3. David Carlos was tagged with the loss. Tauranga is now 13-13, Wagga Wagga 18-8.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Tauranga catcher Markus Pijlswaard, facing Sotaro Hasegawa, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the Taniwha the 3-2 win.
"This game was intense," Pijlswaard said, postgame.
