Hobart wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Bartolo Sánchez, falling to the Tauranga Taniwha, 2-1. Sánchez threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. Young-kwang Yang earned the win. Bartolo Sánchez took the loss for Hobart. Losses have been few and far between for the Devils, now 9-3.
Fernando Zapata had a big solo home run for the Taniwha in the bottom of the second inning. With Tauranga leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a changeup from 20-year old right-handed pitcher Bartolo Sánchez and punished it. The result was his 2nd home run of the season, which put the Taniwha on top, 2-0.
"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Taniwha manager Christian Butler, "I like our chances."
