Kookaburras Turn Away Aces BC, 4-2
|
Manuel Álvarez was outstanding against Auckland. The left-hander had a fastball that was virtually unhittable at times. The result was a Kookaburras 4-2 win. The winning pitcher was Álvarez, now 1-2. He tossed 6.1 innings of 2-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 9. Françisco Roger finished to wrap up his 3rd save.
Chris Gilmore had a big 2-run home run for the Kookaburras in the bottom of the first inning. With North Sydney trailing 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from 19-year old right-handed pitcher Nelson Castro and punished it. The result was his 3rd home run of the season, which put the Kookaburras on top, 2-1.
"Manuel was exceptional and he pitched with a purpose," said North Sydney manager Jason Brooks.
With the loss, Auckland is 7-4.
