Tauranga starter Noriyuki Shini kept the Wagga Wagga offense from doing much damage. The right-hander leaned on his cutter in leading the Taniwha to a 3-1 win. Luis Cantú, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 1st save. The win gives Tauranga a record of 3-2.
José Hernández provided a timely hit. The Tauranga pinch hitter delivered a run-scoring triple in the top of the seventh inning to put the Taniwha on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in the game, but he made it count.
"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Taniwha manager Christian Butler, "I like our chances."
