Tauranga turned a fine outing from starter Roberto Ortíz into a victory over the Brisbane Stevedores at Baypark at the Mount. The final score was 6-1. Ortíz yielded 1 run over 7.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 6. His record improves to 1-0. The win gives Tauranga a record of 2-1.

Eisaku Saito had a big 3-run home run for the Taniwha in the bottom of the second inning. With Tauranga leading 3-0 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he got a fastball from 19-year old right-handed pitcher Sumitomo Nakamura and swatted a home run to right. It was his 1st home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Taniwha ahead, 6-0.

"For the most part, I didn't think they knew what was coming," said Ortíz.
