Mountaineers Knock Off Jiten, 7-4
|
Due in large part to third baseman José Montaño, the Canberra HS Mountaineers sunk the Tokoha Gakuen Kikugawa HS Jiten, 7-4. Montaño went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. The winner in relief was Phil Hammer. The left-hander allowed no runs on 4 hits in 3 innings. He now owns a record of 2-0. The save was credited to Ben Warwick, his 8th.
Bob Rigbye took Tokoha Gakuen Kikugawa HS hurler Yoriyoshi Sasaki deep in the bottom of the third. His grand slam home run put the Mountaineers on top, 6-3. In all, Rigbye had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"We want to make a habit of winning," Montaño said after the game.
The Mountaineers, at 15-18, sit in 4th place in the Pacific Conference Oceanic Division.
