The Tempe Apollos topped the Niihama-shi Ghosts, 6-3, at Gisolo-Duppa Field. Tempe third baseman António Herrera was a spark plug for the offense. He went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Will Taylor got the win, improving to 6-9. He held the Ghosts to 3 runs on 5 hits over 8 innings, while striking out 8 and walking 0. Tempe now sports a record of 49-40.
Tempe first baseman Michael Roberts contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With two down, he hit a screwball to right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 86th hit of the season and put the Apollos ahead, 3-2.
Tempe manager Tomás Rentería was pleased with the team's effort. "Our guys played hard," he said.
