Walk-Off Seals 82nd Victory for Coqui
|
The New Orleans Trendsetters could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Alfredo Vargas into a win. Instead, the San Juan Coqui prevailed, 5-2, in 11 innings. Vargas threw 9.0 innings of 5-hit ball. San Juan reliever Dean Spargo snagged the win, upping his record to 3-3. Robert Haines shouldered the loss. With the win, the Coqui improved to 82-70.
San Juan got a knockout punch from John Pulsifer. The first baseman hammered a 3-run home run in the bottom of the 11th inning to win the game. It might've been his only hit, but it decided the outcome.
"We couldn't have scripted it any better," Pulsifer said in his postgame press conference.
