Jimmy Smith was the difference-maker for the South Caldwell HS Spartans in what turned into a shootout with the Mobile Christian HS Cheetahs. Smith, who is tied for 3rd in the EL in home runs with 16, went 4-for-6 in the extra-inning, 11-9 Spartans win. Greg Williams, credited with the win in relief, is now 3-1. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 3 innings. Now 11-34, Mobile Christian HS has dropped 11 straight.

The defining moment came in the bottom of the 11th for South Caldwell HS. That's when Dean Flynn hit a 2-run home run off 16-year old right-handed pitcher Matt Thompson to win the game. The home crowd went wild.

"We're in a funk right now," said Mobile Christian HS skipper Mathew Anderson.
