Hornets Drop Wildcats, 10-8
|
Phil Woodard did all he could to help his team prevail. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Central HS Wildcats from losing the game, 10-8, to the Bishop Moore HS Hornets in 22 innings at Wildcats Ballpark. Woodard was 5 for 10 with 2 home runs, a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 7 RBI and scoring twice. Rodrigo Venegas notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. His record now sits at 4-2. The Hornets improved their record to 22-21 with the win over Central HS.
Melvin Walker found himself in a pressure situation in the top of the 22nd. Facing Central HS hurler Aaron Gardner, the 16-year-old second baseman hit a sacrifice fly. His 18th RBI of the season put the Hornets on top, 9-8.
"No one wins," Walker said, "without the will to win."
