Sandgnats Top Borealis, 2-1
|
Crystal Lake pitcher Luppe van Dam did his part in helping his team beat the Aurora Borealis, 2-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. van Dam, now 5-6, was the winner. In 5.1 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 4, walking 0, and allowing 1 run. Bastiaan Walraven was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 6 of 6 save opportunities.
Wendell Guiney had a big 2-run home run for the Sandgnats in the bottom of the first inning. With Crystal Lake trailing 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a changeup from Brenden Clymo, who finished 4th in the SL in wins with 16 in 2037, and punished it. The result was his 15th home run of the season, which put the Sandgnats on top, 2-1.
Guiney called the win a testament to his team's "grit."
Crystal Lake currently is in first place in the Sovereign League Great Lakes at 48-34.
