Borealis Come Back Late to Top Sandgnats, 3-0
|
The Aurora Borealis got a marvelous performance from pitcher Armando Batista. The left-hander kept the Crystal Lake offense from ever getting much traction. The result was an impressive 3-0 Aurora victory at Ellison Field at Dole Park. Batista yielded no runs over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5. His record improves to 5-8. Héctor Gutiérrez wrapped it up, recording his 21st save.
Aurora used the timely hitting of Fernando Rodríguez to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Borealis on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"I'm just trying to make sure I'm focused for each and every pitch," said Batista.
The Borealis move to 50-30 with the win, while the Sandgnats drop to 47-34.
