Buccaneers Score Late to Beat Pirates, 6-5
|
The Buccaneers grabbed a win, 6-5, at Pirates Ballpark, overcoming a fine effort from Seton Hall Prep pitcher Aubrey Vinson. Vinson went 6 innings and allowed 1 run. Fred Clayton, credited with the win in relief, is now 1-0. He allowed no runs on 3 hits in 2.2 innings. The win puts the Buccaneers at 13-29, while the Pirates drop to 17-25.
Barbe HS used a timely hit from Jorge Barbosa to get the win. The right fielder stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Buccaneers ahead, 6-5. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a difference-maker.
"Winning never gets dull," said Barbosa.
