Winter Springs HS Topples Carrollton HS, 3-2
|
The Carrollton HS Brawlers got a sterling performance from pitcher John Norton, but the Winter Springs HS Bears still prevailed, 3-2. Norton threw 5.0 innings of 4-hit ball. Víctor Eliptico got credit for the win, improving to 3-0. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.2 innings. Bill Starks got credit for the save for Winter Springs HS. It was his 8th of the year.
Winter Springs HS used the timely hitting of Tom Tucker to capture the win. The catcher socked a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Bears ahead, 3-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a big one.
Carrollton HS manager Jesús Méndez said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
The win makes Winter Springs HS 22-17.
