Cavaliers Rally Late to Nip Sailors
|
The East Rutherford HS Cavaliers faced a tough opponent in Sarasota HS pitcher Joe Sutton, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Sailors Ballpark by a final score of 5-4. Sutton went 5 innings and allowed no runs. Larry Collins snagged the win in relief. He goes to 2-1 on the season. Carl Bryant suffered the loss. Xavier Workman recorded the save for East Rutherford HS, his 10th of the season.
The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Taylor Crawford came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Sarasota HS pitcher Carl Bryant, he hit a 2-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting East Rutherford HS on top, 5-4.
"Good win for us," said Crawford. "We'll strap it on and go after the next one."
The Cavaliers raised their record to 21-15.
