Pirates Popped by Cavaliers, 7-0
|
Seton Hall Prep had no answer for East Rutherford HS Cavaliers hurler Fred Wagner, who overwhelmed Pirates hitters as the Cavaliers coasted to victory, 7-0. The winning pitcher was Wagner, now 1-1. He tossed 5 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 4. East Rutherford HS occupies 4th place in the Eastern League Atlantic Conference at 18-13.
Bill Sullivan had a big solo home run for the Cavaliers in the bottom of the fifth inning. With East Rutherford HS leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a fastball from 17-year old right-handed pitcher Bob Bush and punished it. The result was his 2nd home run of the season, which put the Cavaliers on top, 2-0.
Sullivan told the media after that game that the mood in the clubhouse is "extremely positive" after a win like that.
