Long Beach turned a good performance from starting pitcher Kieran Ogg into a 3-1 triumph over the Portland Chinook at Kauffman Stadium. Ogg got the win, improving to 8-17. He gave up 4 hits and walked 4 over 7 innings. He allowed 1 run. The last-place Oilers are now 67-89, the Chinook 82-74.
The Oilers got a big at-bat from third baseman Kanai Aliimalu. For the game, Aliimalu was 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the top of the first, with a runner on 3rd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 27th home run of the season gave Long Beach a 2-0 lead.
"When I throw strikes I'm good, if I don't I'm not very good," said Ogg. "So I just have to throw strikes."
