Portland starter Ramón Ávila pitched effectively against the Long Beach Oilers at Kauffman Stadium. The right-hander led his team to a win, 5-4. With the win, Portland pushed its record to 81-73.

The Chinook got a clutch hit from center fielder Shigenobu Toyota. In the bottom of the tenth, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Chinook.

"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Toyota told reporters after the game.
