The Kentucky Thoroughbreds had to overcome a big game from Amsterdam third baseman Pablo Ruíz to leave Raceway Park with a victory. And they did, winning, 8-4. Ruíz went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. The winning pitcher was Dong-hak Yi. He tossed 98 pitches over 5.2 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits. The slumping Lions have lost 6 straight.
Wade Gill had a big grand slam home run for the Thoroughbreds in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Kentucky trailing 2-0 and the bases loaded, he sized up a cutter from Jake Bain, who is tied for 8th in the IL in complete games with 1, and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Thoroughbreds on top, 4-2.
"I just try to go out and give it 100 percent every game," Gill told a local reporter after the game. "That's my mantra, and like today, it will pay off more often than not."
