Beat Goes On for Hitmen, Win 8-5 Over Statesmen
|
The New Jersey Hitmen topped the Charleston Statesmen by the score of 8-5, with the biggest share of the credit going to first baseman Ramón Francisco. Francisco was 2-4 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once for the Hitmen on the day. The win was credited to Chris Brown in relief. His record improves to 4-5. Brock Southey took the loss. The Hitmen go to 41-34, putting them second in the Imperial League Seaboard.
New Jersey designated hitter Denis Johnson contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball into right field for a 2-run single. It was his 64th hit of the season and put the Hitmen ahead, 8-5.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Johnson said after the game.
