East Rutherford HS Grounds hosted an old-fashioned pitchers' duel.
The Palm Beach Gardens HS Gators rode a solid performance from 16-year-old starting pitcher Adam George to a win, beating the East Rutherford HS Cavaliers, 1-0, at East Rutherford HS Grounds. George, the winner, moves to 1-1. He threw 6.2 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up no walks. Bill Price finished the game for Palm Beach Gardens HS and earned his 7th save.
The Cavaliers had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Gators going into the top of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 17-year old right fielder Marty McQueen came to the plate. McQueen hit a solo home run on a 1-2 fastball from East Rutherford HS hurler Anastasio Meléndez. It was McQueen's 9th home run of the year.
McQueen told a Palm Beach Gardens HS Citizen reporter that the win made him feel "exuberant."
With the win, Palm Beach Gardens HS has a record of 14-13. East Rutherford HS falls to 15-12.
